This project is based on the 1895 novel The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. The time traveller travells from the 19th century to thosands of years in the future, where he observes 2 different evolutions of mankind.
The Eloi are very whimsical, idyllic creatures who are incapable of processing any intellectual thoughts. Instead they pass their time playing, dancing, making flower garlands and eating fruit. I wanted their clothing to flow and respond to their light, dancing movements through-out the day.
One of the main themes in this project is retrofuturism; considering how the future would look through the eyes of those in the 18th century. I started the design process with a classic 18th century jacket and breeches patter, before adapting them for a more fantastical futuristic design.
